WORD POWER - 7


1. Enumerate – Count/list one by one
Synonyms - Calculate, Specify, mention
Ex – I enumerate the work that will have to be done.

2. Untenable – An argument which can’t be defended successfully
Synonyms - illogical, unsound, unsupportable
Ex – This argument is untenable from an intellectual point of view.

3. Haze –which can’t be seen clearly
Synonyms - dimness, mist, smokiness
Ex – I smiled at him through a haze of smoke.
    
4. Rung – A level
Synonyms - grade, degree, stage
Ex – I worked with him in 1993 when we were both on the lowest rung of our careers.

5. Fraught - To load, The hire of a shop or boat to transport cargo.
Synonyms - attended, laden, charged
Ex - His story is fraught with energy, with success, with pathos and with tragedy.

6. Grudgingly - Lack of desire,
Synonyms - Petulantly, Unwillingly, hesitantly
Ex - In the end Robert asked for delay, which was grudgingly granted him.

7. Plunder - To take by force or wrongfully, to commit robbery.
Synonyms - loot, pillage, spoil
Ex - Every one must have his little sphere if plunder and especial advantage.

8. Bolster - A large cushion or pillow, To brace, Secure
Synonyms - support, maintain, carry, assist
Ex - Their mind has no why or wherefore with which to bolster up their heart.

9. Tenuous - Thin in substance or consistency, Insubstantial
Synonym - delicate, doubtful, slim, rare
Ex - Some nests are rudely constructed, and rather loose and tenuous.

10. Chagrin - Distress of mind caused by a failure of aims or plans, mistakes.
Synonyms - Disquiet, dissatisfaction, annoyance, letdown
Ex - His was but a feeling of annoyance or chagrin - mine was utter agony.
